On March 1st 2017 I made my Broadway Debut in Miss Saigon!
Words cannot even begin to describe what an incredible experience this was. It's a moment you dream about your whole life, and to see it come to fruition before your eyes is magical. The journey to Miss Saigon was amazing and to finally be on that stage at The Broadway Theatre was indescribable.
Throughout the process there were many check points that helped me to understand how amazing this was. Getting the call, signing contracts, starting rehearsals and moving into the theatre. Each let me believe more and more that this was really happening. But it wasn't until the end of our final rehearsal before the first preview that it really sunk in. I just remember them striking all the tech tables out in the house and realizing that the nearly 1,700 seat theatre would be full in just a few hours.
As I got set behind the curtain just before 8:00 PM, the love was unreal. This company is INCREDIBLE! To begin with, so many people in the show were also making their Broadway debut so the energy was palpable. But to see an entire cast coming together to wish each other good luck just behind the curtain, was amazing.
I remember hearing "standby" from the stage manager and watching everyone take their place. I had to take a few deep breaths to calm myself down, otherwise I would have had a huge grin on my face as I pretended to be a tough GI. The house quieted as the announcement played and soon everything went dark. The sound of a helicopter roared through the theatre just has it had in rehearsals, but this time a nearly full house of people roared with it. The show began.
To say the least it was an amazing evening. My adrenaline sustained itself for the entire three hours only to be reignited again when we took our bow. The final curtain fell and the cast went nuts! Every one was screaming and cheering so excited to have opened Miss Saigon. It was an experience I will never forget.
